Leicester City are reportedly lining up a move for Jesse if they sell James Maddison to Arsenal.

The Gunners have entered discussions with the Foxes over a potential deal for Maddison, but his £60million valuation is proving to be a stumbling block.

Arsenal have offered Joe Willock, who is now set for a £25m switch to Newcastle, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson as makeweights to reduce the price, but Brendan Rodgers’ men are not willing to entertain a cash-plus-player deal.

Leicester insist they don’t need to sell their star man this summer, but acutely aware that every player has their price, they have been willing to hear what the north London club have had to say.

And if Arsenal can meet their demands for Maddison, claim Rodgers has already lined up his replacement.

That player is Jesse who has returned to Old Trafford following an impressive loan spell at West Ham, but is in a similar situation to Maddison, where he would be available if the right offer was put on the table.

Rodgers has maintained that Maddison is happy at the King Power Stadium but refused to rule out a possible exit this summer.

He said: “I know he is very happy here and he wants to be here.

“If anything comes to the club, Jon Rudkin (director of would tell me straight away and I would deal with it then, but there has been nothing that’s come my way.

“I’ve not been told anything to say [he won’t stay]. He is happy in training and he is working hard, and he is a talented, important member of the squad.

“He had his season disrupted by injury last year but hopefully this season he can show what a real top player he is.”

Arsenal are looking at other targets, however, as Arteta desperately looks for a creative midfielder for the new Premier League campaign.

Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard is still on the club’s radar after an excellent loan spell during the second half of last season.
